Few things can dampen (oh yes, I went there) the exploring mood like rain, but rain is indeed inevitable wherever you find yourself on this beautiful globe of ours. Sometimes the rain is embraced with open arms like the monsoons that cool down sticky hot South Asia. Other times, survival instincts kick in and planks are laid out for locals (and tourists) as a circuit above the abnormally high tides of the acqua alta in Venice. Either way, rain is a reality that locals and tourists alike learn to wade through and live with if they want to go about their day-to-day and explore a destination during the off-season.
We’ve covered the basics on what to do and how to dress while travelling in the rain. And then we got inspired to window shop for the perfect rainy day outfit. Here’s how Portjam & Co does rainy day style!
Top left to right:
A flowy white top with a slit back detail (with panel of course) makes a super cute and lightweight base layer.
A baggy cropped sweater pulls double duty, warming those arms and chest while keeping things easy breezy.
The main attraction is a fun, hooded toggle jacket.
Middle left to right:
Stretchy grey leggings are snazzed up with a black tuxedo stripe because wet weather doesn’t have to lack style.
Leather ankle boots keep your feet dry and makes walking a less slippery endeavour.
A scarf is THE accessory to have wherever you are, no matter the climate. (so obviously, rainy day style needs this guy!)
Bottom left to right:
Speaking of accessories, jewellery can brighten the cloudiest of days. I chose a ring, but earrings, bracelets, and a necklace are just as fun.
A cross-body bag makes moving around easy, and the hands free to negotiate the most needed of all accessories for rain which is…
… an umbrella! I love clear umbrellas! Rain can be very pretty behind the clear shell that’s also very functionally keeping you dry.
